Once Upon a Time, In a Country not so far Away
For this solo exhibition, Peng Zhang founded his own kingdom within the walls of Drawing Centre Diepenheim. With Zhang’s characteristic combination of everyday ‘poor’ materials, such as earth and bamboo, and folkloric imagery, he creates an installation imagining a nation where the land and its farmers can flourish. For Zhang, born and raised in rural China, the homeland is not just a place you leave behind when you migrate. “It is a memory that can take root elsewhere, transform, and grow again,” says Zhang.
Driessen is the initiator and curator of this solo exhibition with Zhang.
